Project Visit
Clark Deacon and Larry Flesner recently visited Dr. Terry Hall at Benton to check out his project. Following is the write-up that Dr. Hall provided for his project.
Zenith Cruzer 750 Kit, 2 seat aluminum LSA/Viking 130 Engine/GRT Avionics: SportEX with AOA EFIS/EIS 4000 engine monitor/Trig 96 Radio/TT22 transponder/ELT 04/Stratux ADS B in.
I’m actively building my first plane in an attached 24/ft. garage in Benton, Illinois. There is barely enough room and an open question is whether the vertical and horizontal stabilizer will need to be disassembled to move out of garage door. My plans are to complete construction of fuselage/avionics/engine soon. I will move to hangar to mount wings, flaperon controls etc. (hopefully to test fly this summer?).
I began building 10/2016 with Zenith Rudder class and home building approximately 12/2016. I have completed wings, tail and now vertical stabilizer. I purchased a quick build fuselage from Zenith since I incorrectly thought I could not build that myself alone. All controls/header tank are installed. The seats were assembled and upholstered locally in Benton.
The Viking 130 engine (modified Honda Fit 4-cylinder fuel injected engine with gear reduction) is mounted and all engine wiring (firewall forward) is completed. A fuselage mounted radiator is installed because of liquid cooling.
The airframe components are near completion (except for windshield, top window and doors). I am installing, wiring and testing avionics before closing the front end. I hope to run engine without propeller prior to the move to hangar. Something is to be said for a heated and cooled garage attached to the house.
I continue to appreciate help from my fellow builders and my EAA Construction Adviser.
